Mutatis mutandis es una expresión latina que significa “cambiando lo que haya que cambiar”. La usaban los juristas romanos para aplicar un principio a un caso nuevo sin empezar todo desde cero: se ajusta lo que cambia y se conserva lo que sigue siendo válido. Cuando inicié este blog, en el milenio pasado, todo ya parecía moverse con rapidez. Había que adaptarse sobre la marcha y cambiar lo necesario. Hoy vivimos una época de transformaciones todavía más vertiginosas —inteligencia artificial, automatización, reconfiguración del trabajo y de la cultura— y el nombre encaja mejor que nunca con lo que está ocurriendo. Ni apocalipsis ni nostalgia: mutatis mutandis.
Mutatis mutandis is a Latin expression meaning “changing what needs to be changed.” Roman jurists used it to apply a principle to a new case without starting from scratch: adjust what changes, preserve what still holds. When I started this blog, in the previous millennium, everything already seemed to be moving fast. You had to adapt on the fly and change whatever needed changing. Today we live in an era of even more dizzying transformations —artificial intelligence, automation, the reshaping of work and culture— and the name fits better than ever. Neither apocalypse nor nostalgia: mutatis mutandis.
Mutatis mutandis ist ein lateinischer Ausdruck und bedeutet „unter Änderung dessen, was geändert werden muss”. Römische Juristen verwendeten ihn, um ein Prinzip auf einen neuen Fall anzuwenden, ohne alles von Grund auf neu zu formulieren: Man passt an, was sich verändert, und bewahrt, was weiterhin gilt. Als ich diesen Blog im letzten Jahrtausend begann, schien sich schon alles mit großer Geschwindigkeit zu bewegen. Man musste sich fortwährend anpassen und ändern, was nötig war. Heute leben wir in einer Epoche noch rasanterer Umbrüche —künstliche Intelligenz, Automatisierung, die Neuordnung von Arbeit und Kultur— und der Name passt besser denn je zu dem, was wir erleben.
